Welcome to Part 3 of my Beauty Trend Show coverage. So far, I gave you the low down on the top summer beauty trends and showed you my makeover from Lancôme national artist, Jason, where he shared his favorite beauty tips with us.

Now it’s time for me to tell you about the one take away I got from this season’s show – safe, self-tanning is what’s HOT, baby!

Almost every brand that presented during the show mentioned a new bronzing product that promised a golden glow without the harm of UV rays. Fusion Beauty even brought out a shirtless Abercrombie & Fitch-esque male model to demonstrate their GlowFusion Micro-Nutrient Face & Body Natural Protein Tan ($58 US). Boy did he get those ladies riled up at 9am!

If you want to try getting a nice, golden tan without the harmful sun and even worse for you tanning beds, here are some easy steps from Nordstrom Beauty Director Joelle Russo to prep your body for an easy at-home tan that’s gorgeous and not to mention safe for you!

Step 1: Exfoliate! Give yourself a clean slate to work with by sloshing off dead cells from the surface of your skin. Pay extra attention to the rougher parts of your body like the elbows, knees, and ankles.

Step 2: Don’t forget to shave your legs. Along with exfoliating, shaving helps to get rid of more of those dead skin cells giving you the smoothest surface to begin layering on your self-tanner.

Step 3: Moisturizing is key! Joello Russo says to apply a light moisturizer onto your skin before using applying your self-tanner of choice. Some tanners are not lotions or don’t have enough emollient agents to keep your skin silky and soft so you always want to make sure you have a little moisturizer before you start.

Step 4: It’s tanning time! Spray or slather on your desired tanning product as evenly as you possibly can. I personally likes gradual tanner – they’re a little easier to control the color if you’re uneasy about the color results. Products that give you buildable color helps me maintain the color that I want without going too dark or orange. Let the tanner fully dry and sink in for about 10-15 minutes before getting dressed and heading to bed – Joelle likes to tan in the evening before going to sleep. Whatever time of day you like is completely up to you!

Now that you know how to give yourself a bronzy glow at home, here are some self-tanner suggestions for you to try.

From Left to Right, Clockwise:

Jergens Natural Glow Express ($7.99 US) is one of my favorite gradual tanners, giving me a nice color with little effort at at all.

Guerlain Terracotta Sunless Self-Tanning Spray ($50 US) containing 100% Moroccan Argan oil keeps your skin hydrated and was a hot item from the Trend Show. It’s safe for face and body – a couple of sprays gives instant and long-lasting color.

L’Oreal Sublime Bronze ($9.99 US) is a no-rub formula making it super easy to use – just spray and go! Color gradually deepens with each use making it fool-proof so you can get the shade you really want.

Benefit’s Talk to the Tan ($26 US) lets you experiment with sunless tanning on your complexion without any commitment. This facial tint lets you give yourself a custom tan and washes off easily when you want it to.

Clarins Delicious Self-Tanning Cream ($40 US) is one of Joelle Russo’s favorite product – this lightly scented tanner is infused with cocoa extract making it oh-so-delicious!
